There was once a farmer that had an old mule. Unfortunately, one day, the mule fell into the well in the yard. The farmer heard the mule screaming in pain and even though he liked the mule, he decided that neither the mule nor the well are not worth the trouble of saving. He got together the neighbors and asked them to dig up dirt to bury the mule with the well. That way, he will solve both problems at once. At first, the old mule panicked. Not only was he on the bottom of the well, now they were trying to bury him alive. But as they kept throwing buckets of dirt at him, an...

A long time ago, there lived a very, very wise King. He was so wise he knew the ways of most everything. He knew of animals, birds, fish, and trees. And he taught people from all over the world about these. Now one breezy day, a tiny bee lost her way, and flew right into the King’s beautiful palace. The little bee begged the King, “Please, let me live, and I will serve you some day.” The King was amused to think a tiny bee could one day serve such a mighty king. He released the bee and said, “Go, be on your way, for I need nothing more from you today.” Many days later,...

An unemployed man was desperate to support his family. His wife did nothing but watch TV all day while his three teenage kids had dropped out of high school to hang around with the local troublemakers. His option limited, he applied for a janitor’s job at a large company and easily passed the aptitude test. The human resources manager told him: “You will be hired at a minimum wage of $5.05 an hour. Let me know your e-mail address so that we can get you in the loop. Our system will automatically e-mail you all the forms, and advise you when to start and where to report on your first day.” But the man...

This is a story from Steve Job’s commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005. It’s fascinating and encouraging: “I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out? It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they...
